The location of the meetings of the board of directors is not the only criterion to be considered in determining the location of the central management and control; it is only one element. The CRA may conclude that a company is resident in Canada when the actual management and control takes place in Canada, even if the meetings of the board of directors have taken place elsewhere. If a potential dual residency issue for a corporation involves a country with which Canada has not signed any tax treaties, residency status will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
If the circumstances warrant, the CRA will consider adopting a similar approach to determine the residency status of a commercial trust. This administrative approach will also be adopted where other entities, incorporated in foreign jurisdictions, are considered corporations for the purposes of Canadian tax law, such as limited liability companies.

About 24, years ago, when much of North America was buried under the ice of the Last Glacial Maximum, a few hunters took shelter in a small cave above the Bluefish River in what is now northwestern Yukon. The hunters had killed a Yukon horse and were butchering it using super-sharp stone shards called microblades. At the time, Cinq-Mars and his team concluded that the Bluefish Caves showed evidence of occasional human use as much as 30, years ago. That was the Spell of the Yukon!
Bourgeon sent six pieces of bone that showed evidence of stone-tool cuts to a lab in Oxford, England, for radiocarbon dating. The youngest, it turned out, was a 12,year-old caribou bone. The most ancient: the 24,year-old horse jaw bone. Previously, the oldest accepted human occupations were at three sites in Alaska and one just over the border in Yukon, all dating to about 14, years ago.
Radiocarbon dating puts the bone at 24, to 23, years before present. Photo by Bourgeon et al. Horses are thought to have disappeared from the region about 14, years ago. Bourgeon says her results add weight to another controversial idea: the Beringian standstill hypothesis. Archaeological evidence of their presence has been elusive, but the butchered bones of the Bluefish Caves might provide that missing link.

Did humans have a hand in their demise, or did climatic changes and altering vegetation trigger it? A definitive answer has eluded scientists, but improving techniques and the growing value of DNA analysis has painted a clearer picture of events surrounding their demise. While climate change dominates headlines in the modern era, it loomed large in the lives of the many species that inhabited the Americas thousands of years before mankind began belching carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

The coin was found in July at the proposed site of Western Copper’s Casino Mine by archeologists working for a firm called Ecofor, which specializes in studies for mining companies and First Nations interested in cultural studies. After a routine day of excavating, the team came across a coin that glittered in the mud below their feet. Mooney said that indicated the coin, which is about the size of a quarter, likely predates the Klondike Gold Rush.
The coin was minted sometime between and during the reign of China’s Kangxi Emperor and is a remnant of China’s imperial past, he said. Kangxi was China’s longest-reigning emperor and known for expanding the Chinese empire, blocking several major uprisings and halting a Russian invasion of China. He said the brass coin is known as a cash coin and was among those that were cheaply produced in India and China.
